When is it too young to put a baby in a big bed?
My daughter will be 14 months old when my new one arrives! Didn't really know if I needed to purchase another crib/changing table set for the new baby or just buy my daughter that will be 14 months old a twin size bed (with guards on it of course). What is your opinion? Is it too soon to transfer her from her crib to a "big girl bed"?
I had to transfer my oldest son when he was 16 mos because I had surgery and couldn't pick him up. I had to seriously babyproof the room and use gates to keep him in there. But my oldest son was also a very docile baby so I never had too many problems with him. He's the earliest I have ever moved a baby and I won't do it again unless absolutely necessary.
Our solution to the crib when a new baby is coming is to use a pac n play with our newborns. They sleep in our room so I don't have to hike across the house to get them at night when they wake up. They sleep in the pac n play until around 11 months. That is when we move our other baby out of the crib to a big bed and then move the baby to the crib. Granted, my children are a little further spaced than yours will be but not by much. I have also found that it was easier to move girls to a big bed than it was the boys. Not sure why that is (maybe it's just that my last two boys have been nothing BUT pure unadulterated boy, URGH!!)
i also think that you can only be the judge to what is best for you little girl. Evaluate her personality. Does she listen and obey you? Is she impulsive? Can you move her a big bed and babyproof so she's safe if she's gets out of her bed? Does she climb gates if you choose to use a gate at the door of her room? Do you have stairs that are babyproofed well if she does get out of her room? Things like that need to be evaluated. If you feel that she's ready for it then I don't see why I you couldn't do it. But the utmost importance is safety for her. She's still pretty young.
